"Redux" Folded Cards

Peri Goodman's Artist Statement:

“Redux” plays on the concept of deconstruction and eventual reconstruction, through the comparison of the human body to classic cars. At face value, the work is filled with reference to being taken apart and put back together again one piece at a time. Beyond that, the theme of duplicates in the composition relay two rounds of overcoming Hodgkin’s Lymphoma nearly two decades ago.

The use of cars as a motif was a natural progression in creating “Redux,” as many of Jemma’s speaking engagements through the American Cancer Society include her use of the classic car restoration metaphor. Her openness in sharing personal anecdotes woven into what could have been a strictly medical retelling of stem cell treatment serves as inspiration for the bright coloring and winding background.

Jemma Cabral's Twist On Cancer:

Mindset is everything. I had an autologous stem cell transplant the second time I had cancer. No matter how much high-dose chemo I was given or how low my blood counts were, even at my weakest point in treatment, my mindset pulled me through.
