Keep on Keepin’ On was inspired by Ilene Cantos, a woman of valor whose journey through two different cancers has been marked by resilience, generosity, and an unshakable hope. Despite the dark days she has faced, Ilene has continued to move forward with a brightness and lightness that uplifts those around her.
As I painted, the color pink felt like the right language—an echo of courage, compassion, and vitality. Each shape, mark, and gesture carries both Ilene’s spirit and my own, layered together in a conversation between struggle and strength, vulnerability and beauty. This piece is not only a reflection of Ilene’s endurance, but also a reminder of the power of hope—how it radiates beyond the self and becomes a gift to others.
